Immunoelectrophoretic studies of Clonorchis sinensis

Abstract
Clonorchiasis is one of the most common trematode diseases and of very important public health problems in Korea. Until recently, most of the surveys for clonorchiasis in an endemic area are made by stool examinations and intradermal test, but many efforts have been made the use of immunodiagnostic techniques as effective tools for the detection of parasitic infection of men and animals.)
Immunoelectrophoresis appears to be a valuable aid in the diagnosis of clonorchiasis in Korea. In order to observe the immunoelectrophoretic precipitate lines of Clonorchis sinensis, the sera taken once before infection and once evey two weeks after infection with Clonorchis sinensis metacercaria. were examined by the immunoelectrophoretic technique. As antigen, 0.1% saline extract of the adult worms of C. sinensis was used, and 0.9% Schuchardt Agarose in veronal buffered saline (pH 8.2) was used.
The resultant findings were as follows:
1) Some immunoelectrophoretic precipitate lines are observed after two weeks, but most of precipitate lines are observed after 3 weeks.
2) In the problem of infected metacercaria numbers and detected adult worm numbers of Clonorchis sinensis, there is are not any differences among the numbers of the each precipitate lines in immunoelectrophoretic figures.
3) Immunoelectrophoretic precipitate lines are not observed in both control group and uninfected sera with Clonorchis sinensis metacercaria.
